The challenge

Bringing immersive magic to Bristol Pride

Bristol Pride is an intensely ‘Bristol’ event – a delightful feast of creativity, craft and colour, celebrating uniqueness and togetherness in equal measure. And it just so happens to be a massive party. As proud Bristolians, we volunteered to use our creative skills to add our own colour to the proceedings, and brighten up a few peoples’ days with an immersive experience.

Our creative process

Simple, striking

With Augmented Reality (AR), sometimes simplicity is best. Especially at an event like the Pride Parade, where everyone is buzzing, chatting and concentrating on multiple things at once – we didn’t want to create something that would ask too much of a user. As the ubiquitous symbol of the Pride movement, and a striking visual in its own right, use of a rainbow was a no-brainer. Using the Pride Progress Flag as the base (as modelled by Bristol’s own Rainbow Crossing at the top of Union Street), we created an enormous hovering AR rainbow sculpture over Castle Park, where the marchers assembled to join the parade.

The outcome and impact

Finding the end of the rainbow

Viewable through the Adobe Aero mobile app, our progress rainbow sculpture really brought smiles to the faces of people gathered to join the parade, offering a striking and easily accessible immersive experience as well as a great selfie opportunity. It was a fun day out for our team too, and a brilliant event to be part of and lend our creative skills to. We’re already looking forward to what we’ll be doing at Bristol Pride next year, so watch this space!
